Activities : Golf in Iceland

There are about 50 golf courses in Iceland, six of them 18-hole courses and almost all the rest with 9 holes. This actually makes Iceland one of the most densely populated countries for golf courses in the world per capita. The quality of the golf often amazes foreigners. As do the green fee prices – as golf is comparably quite reasonably priced in Iceland.

Though the golfing season is short in Iceland (from May to October most years), the light summer nights mean that one can spend 24 hours a day on the course, thus effectively lengthening the season! Golfers from all over the world are always amazed to take part in the midnight-golf experience.

The closest golf course to Hotel Ranga is Strandvöllur, one of Icelands best 18 hole courses. Lying just 2 minutes (2 km or 1,5 mile) away from Hotel Ranga and in plain view of stunning mountains, glaciers and Mt Hekla, it offers great opportunity to experience golf in a absolutely unique setting. Many guests come here and take a golf vacation in combination with the plethora of other activities the region can offer or by spending a golf weekend here while also enjoying gourmet food and relaxing afterwards in the hot tubs. Equipment rental is available at Strandvöllur. The 18-hole golf course on the Westman Islands (33km or a 5min flight) is also stunningly beautiful and well worth a visit. Another beautyful 18-hole golf course in the south area is Selsvollur near Fludir.
