Activities : Cycling in Iceland
Cycling on both rough and paved Icelandic roads is becoming an increasingly popular sport. We at Hotel Ranga are actually receiving bookings from several customized groups exclusively for biking here evey year! Many people bike around the whole of Iceland - sometimes a tasking tour & challenge - often in bad weather, but always an experience to be remembered.
An outdoor sports paradise
The Hengill/Nesjavellir area in South Iceland is an outdoor sports paradise, with a variety of 160 km of marked and challenging hiking and biking trails in a region of high-temperature geothermal areas, hot springs, volcanic craters, lava fields, rivers and lakes. This is a true paradise for mountainbiking. Besides cycling, you can also go fishing on lake Þingvallavatn, visit Þingvellir National Park, tour the Hengill geothermal power plant and go horseback riding. Another area becoming popular for advanced mountain bikers is the trail between Skógar and Thorsmörk. A real grueling and tough adventure in a beautiful glacier and mountain setting. But this is definitely no trip for beginners!
Please contact the hotel if you are interested in obtaining information about this. Motorcycling through Iceland is also very popular in the summer - especially the highlands give great opportunities for off-road biking with cross-motorcycles.
